The city of Amsterdam, Liander en TenneT are searching for space in the city: all sustainable ambitions require a stronger network, and space must be made available for that. Barnebies understands both worlds and acts as a bridge between urban planners, policymakers, and technicians to solve the puzzle: Where can we find room for installations, and how do we ensure optimal integration?

This issue engages multiple departments within the municipality and the network parties. There are zoning plans, environmental and technical requirements, sustainability ambitions, and capacity challenges. A substation must be designed for the location where it will be placed; this involves technical choices as well as, of course, a price tag.

Barnebies oversaw the site selection and information provision for finding new locations for substations for the City of Amsterdam. We managed council documents, internal reports, and, most importantly, the information flow among all parties involved so that all individual projects remained informed about solutions found during the planning process.
